Frequently asked questions

What is a window tint exemption prescription?

A window tint exemption prescription allows medically necessary tinting beyond legal limits for individuals with specific health conditions.

What does Ezy Tint do?

EzyTint provides administrative assistance for New York State window tint medical exemptions.
We help collect documents, obtain the medical provider’s signature, secure their medical license certificate, prepare the full submission packet, and mail everything to the DMV Medical Review Unit on your behalf.

We do not issue or approve exemptions — all decisions are made by the DMV. Although we have yet to have a client declined, at times the first submission can be declined but after resubmission we are at a 100% success rate.

How dark can I tint my vehicle with an exemption, and can the windshield be tinted?

In New York State, an approved medical exemption allows you to tint your vehicle as dark as you prefer, including full tint on the windshield. NYS provides complete flexibility for medically exempt clients, and we ensure your documents meet all state requirements.

If you are seeking an exemption outside of New York State, tint percentages and windshield rules vary. Some states limit how dark you may go or restrict how much of the windshield can be tinted. Because we are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice outside of NYS tint laws, we strongly recommend reviewing your state’s specific regulations regarding allowed tint levels and windshield coverage before applying.

Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you understand what your exemption permits based on your state’s requirements.

Why should I choose Ezy Tint over other window tint exemption services?

Ezy Tint stands apart from other services because of the scale, professionalism, and reliability we bring to the exemption process. While most companies rely on only one or two medical providers, we have built an extensive network of over 100 licensed medical professionals who support our clients. This ensures faster turnaround times, stronger medical documentation, and significantly higher approval success.

We handle the entire process from start to finish, including obtaining medical signatures, securing provider license certificates, preparing all required documentation, and submitting your packet directly to the New York DMV Medical Review Unit. Our team is highly experienced, extremely thorough, and committed to maintaining complete privacy and accuracy throughout every step of the process. We also are priced extremely well to capture the markets attention and to help those clients in need that cant afford other exemption services.

Choosing Ezy Tint means choosing a service with unmatched resources, a proven success rate, and a deeply experienced support team that ensures your exemption is handled quickly, correctly, and professionally.

*Please be advised that several businesses and websites have begun using or mimicking names similar to ours, including “www.ezlegaltint.com.” We are not associated, affiliated, or connected with that website—or any other company—outside of our official site, www.ezytint.com.

Some of these businesses falsely claim they can obtain a New York State medical window tint exemption in 1–7 days, which is impossible. If you receive an “exemption” that quickly, it is not valid. NYS processing times typically range from several weeks to a few months, depending on state backlog. The mailing alone would take 2 weeks.

New York State is currently facing a major issue with fraudulent or counterfeit tint exemptions, and we urge all clients to exercise caution.

Additionally, certain websites advertise that they can provide medical tint exemptions in any U.S. state. This is inaccurate and misleading. Some states do not permit medical window tint exemptions at all, making such claims legally impossible.

For your protection, please ensure you are purchasing your service from a legitimate provider and that your exemption complies with your state’s laws.*

Why should I pay Ezy Tint or any other tint exemption service when I could try to do it myself for free?

While it is technically possible to attempt the tint exemption process on your own, most people find it far more complicated than expected. The New York DMV Medical Review Unit requires very specific documentation, accurate medical reasoning, and precise verification from a licensed medical provider. Even a small mistake, missing detail, or unclear explanation can lead to delays or denials.

Another major challenge with doing it yourself is obtaining support from your personal medical professional. Many providers deny requests during the visit simply because they do not believe the condition is severe enough, or they are unfamiliar with tint exemption requirements. This leaves many individuals without the documentation they genuinely need.

Ezy Tint eliminates these challenges by handling the entire process from start to finish. We work with a network of over 100 licensed medical professionals who take each client’s medical concerns seriously. Our providers understand qualifying conditions and are committed to properly documenting and advocating for clients who truly need relief from light sensitivity and related health issues.

We manage every step of the process, including coordinating medical signatures, obtaining official medical license certificates, preparing all required documents, and submitting your exemption packet directly to the DMV Medical Review Unit. Our experience ensures your paperwork is complete, accurate, and structured in a way that supports approval. To date, no client has ever been ultimately denied after our resubmission process, which demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach.

Choosing Ezy Tint means choosing experience, reliability, medical support, accuracy, and convenience. Instead of navigating a tedious process on your own, you receive professional guidance and a significantly stronger chance of approval.

How can I obtain a window tint exemption prescription?

To get started, all you need to do is call or email us. Unlike other businesses, we do not charge anything upfront. Payment is only requested after you speak with our medical providers—either by phone or email—and they confirm that you are eligible. Once approved, we will email you an invoice that includes a secure payment link powered by Stripe for a safe and seamless checkout experience, after payment is recieved we will start the process. Everything on our end after payment can usually be done in 1-3 business days depending on when one of our medical professionals sends all required paperwork to us.

Is the tint exemption valid outside New York?

If you are applying for an exemption in New York State, please be aware that your exemption is valid only within NYS. If you reside outside of New York, we will coordinate with licensed medical professionals in your state to help secure your exemption according to that state’s laws.

It is also important to understand that if you receive an exemption in one state and travel into another, law enforcement in the state you are visiting is not required to honor your exemption, as you are outside the state that issued it. While we have not received reports of clients being ticketed in this situation, the decision ultimately rests with the law enforcement officer handling the traffic stop. So if its a understanding honest officer then more than likely its safe to say he/she would honor an out of state exemption.

What documentation is required for a tint exemption?

Each state that permits tint exemptions has its own specific requirements. If you are applying in New York State (NYS), we will provide you with the MV-80W form, which must be signed by you. In addition, you will need to provide a copy of the registration for each vehicle you wish to include, as well as your driver’s license number. Our medical team will complete and submit the remaining sections, including the medical justification, prescription, and the provider’s medical license/certificate.

Please note: In NYS, the address on your driver’s license must match the address on your vehicle registration. Additionally, if you plan to purchase a new vehicle or obtain new license plates, we strongly recommend waiting before applying. The exemption is issued specifically for the vehicle and plate number you provide; it is not transferable. If you change vehicles or plates, you will need to repeat the process and will be charged again.

If you are applying outside of NYS, we will inform you of the exact documentation required based on your state’s regulations. Overall, obtaining a tint exemption in any state is a straightforward and simple process.

How long does the exemption process take?

The processing timeline can vary depending on the medical review and required documentation, on our end it only takes 1-3 business days. One of the main factors is the workload and backlog of your local DMV; at times they process applications very quickly, while other periods may experience delays.

If you are located in New York State, you may contact the NYS DMV Medical Review Unit at 518-474-0774, option #2, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They can provide the specific application dates they are currently processing. Typical DMV processing time is around 2-8 weeks, again depending on their current volume.

What happens if my exemption is denied?

If the DMV denies your request:

We will revise your documentation
Obtain new medical reasoning
Use a different medical professional if needed
Prepare and mail a fresh submission
EzyTint will resubmit up to three (3) times at no additional cost.

If all three attempts are denied (which has never happened), we will issue a refund according to our Refund Policy.

To date, we have successfully assisted more than 13,000 individuals in obtaining their window tint exemptions. Out of those 13,000+ approvals, approximately 200 were initially denied for various reasons. These denials were typically due to factors such as a medical professional submitting too many prescriptions within a short period, or an inconsistent decision made by the reviewing agency.

To address this, we expanded our network to include over one hundred medical professionals, significantly reducing the likelihood of such issues. All clients who experienced an initial denial ultimately received approval after additional submissions.

I see there are two (2) payment package options—the $224.99 and $249.99 plans. Could you please explain the difference?

Option 1 is priced at $224.99 and provides windo tint exemption for New York State (NYS). This option three (3) attempts, whether it takes one attempt or 3. Because we work with a large network of medical professionals in NYS on a daily basis, our costs are lower, which allows us to offer this option at a reduced rate. *We have never had to submit more than two attempts*

Option 2 is priced at $249.99 and provides window tint exemption in any state that permits medical tint exemptions. This option is for three (3) attempts. This option is priced higher because we work with fewer medical professionals outside of NYS, and the associated costs in those states are higher.

Do you guarantee approval?

No. Approval is determined solely by the New York DMV Medical Review Unit.

However, we have an extremely strong success rate and:

We have never had a client ultimately denied after more than two (2) attempts.

Can I still receive a ticket even after being granted an exemption?

While it is extremely rare, it is still possible to be issued a ticket even after you have been granted a window tint exemption. In most cases, this occurs because an officer may be unfamiliar with the specific state laws or may overlook the exemption paperwork when it is presented.

If you do receive a ticket, we recommend attending your scheduled court date and bringing your exemption documentation with you. You may also provide the documents to your attorney; however, we generally suggest appearing in court yourself to avoid unnecessary legal fees. Every client who has contacted us after receiving a ticket has had their case dismissed without fines, points, or any penalties.

These situations are truly uncommon, but if they occur, remain polite, accept the ticket calmly—knowing it will be resolved—and continue with your day.

*Please be aware that applying and receiving tint exemption after being issued ticket(s) will not help you in that particular situation but only if your exemption was issued before*

How many vehicles can I have window tint exemption for?

You may obtain a window tint exemption for as many vehicles as you choose. When purchasing your plan, please provide a copy of the registration for each vehicle you wish to include—whether it is one vehicle or ten, the price remains the same.

However, if you later decide to add additional vehicles, change your license plates, or purchase a new vehicle, you will need to complete the process again for those updates, and standard fees will apply each time.

What if I want to try more than three attempts?

You may continue the process for $20 per additional submission, including new medical documentation and mailing.

Historically, clients do not need more than two attempts as we have never needed to do so.
